FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Austin, Texas (March 7, 2016) – Steven M. Fies was awarded an Emotional Intelligence Specialist certification (CPEQ) today from TTI Success Insights. Fies is the President & CEO of ThinkPlanLaunch and directly engaged in consulting the firm’s clients. This certification reflects his knowledge of emotional intelligence and enables him to administer, analyze, and debrief TTI’s Emotional Quotient™ assessment and related training programs.

What is the CPEQ certification?

The CPEQ certification requires successful completion of an emotional intelligence course, and then a comprehensive exam provided by TTI Success Insights. The exam measures knowledge of emotional intelligence and its applications based on TTI’s Emotional Quotient™ instrument. The following topics are covered in the examination:

  • History of Emotional Intelligence (EQ)
  • Administration of EQ Assessments
  • Reading and Interpreting Assessment Data & Graphs
  • Development of the Goleman Model of EQ
  • Intrapersonal vs. Interpersonal EQ
  • Effects of EQ on Behaviors and Driving Forces
  • Applications of EQ Data/Graphs to Consulting Scenarios

What is Emotional Intelligence?

Emotional intelligence is the ability to sense, understand, and apply the acumen of emotions to facilitate higher levels of communication, productivity, and teamwork.

Research tells us successful people have well-developed emotional intelligence. This gives them the ability to work productively with a wide variety of people, and to effectively adapt to rapidly changing business conditions. In fact, a person’s emotional intelligence (EQ) has been shown to be a better predictor of success than normal intelligence (IQ).

The Emotional Quotient™ assessment measures five dimensions of EQ based on Daniel Goleman’s model:

  1. Self-Awareness (Intrapersonal) – your ability to accurately sense and understand your emotions, including how they affect you and others.
  2. Self-Regulation (Intrapersonal) – your ability to sense and control disruptive emotions; to retain your composure and apply good judgment before acting.
  3. Motivation (Intrapersonal) – your ability to apply yourself to your goals with passion and resilience.
  4. Empathy (Interpersonal) – your ability to sense and understand the emotions of others from their perspective; to feel, share, and care for the thoughts and feelings of another human being.
  5. Social Skills (Interpersonal) – your ability to communicate effectively with others, manage relationships, and build social networks.

Applications of Emotional Intelligence

Emotional intelligence is increasingly recognized as an important factor in a person’s life, career, and relationship success. People with high EQ earn, on average, $29,000 more per year than those with average-to-low EQ. They are promoted more often, awarded larger raises and bonuses, and lead more fulfilling relationships with friends, family, colleagues, and clients.

Research shows the benefits of EQ increase exponentially with job complexity:

  • 3X more productive: clerks, machine operators (entry-level positions).
  • 12X more productive: mechanics, sales clerks, customer service (customer-facing, skilled workers).
  • 127X more productive: consultants, doctors, attorneys, executives (high-level positions).

The exponential nature of these increases reflects the central role of EQ in good decision-making, and in working effectively with other human beings. If there was ever a “unicorn” of personal development, researchers now understand it to be EQ.

TTI Success Insights’ model of psychology and performance places EQ at the absolute center, recognizing it as the foundation upon which all other aspects of performance, behavior, and development grow.
